The Blanton Collier Sportsmanship Group initiated their first Coach of the Year awards in 2010 for Ethics, Excellence and Education in coaching. Awards are given to a school coach and to a volunteer coach. The awards are open to national applications. The awards are an extension of the group's efforts to hold up those coaches who promote the highest characteristics of sports in a win-at-all-costs climate, in which some attempts to emulate high profile coaches can lead to abuse of young athletes. The awards are given annually during the KY NFL Hall of Fame ceremonies.
